Madison College is seeking an Accountant to support the financial operations that help advance the college's mission of providing accessible, high-quality education and workforce training. This position is responsible for a variety of accounting functions including reconciliations, financial transaction processing, journal entries, reporting, and audit support to ensure the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of institutional financial records. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and detail-oriented professional who enjoys problem-solving, improving processes, and partnering with colleagues across the college to support effective financial stewardship.
Position Details:
Schedule: This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week, 52 weeks out of the year. Primary office hours are Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm. This hybrid position works in the office Tuesdays and Thursdays with the opportunity to work remotely the other days of the week. Remote work subject to change in accordance with Madison College policy.

Accountabilities:
Prepares and analyzes financial transactions by ensuring accuracy and proper documentation for cash receipts and credit card processing.
Supports secure and efficient payment processing by establishing and maintaining merchant accounts, coordinating system setups and ensuring compliance with financial policies.
Trains employees on their use of cash receipt templates and resolving issues related to daily deposits and system access.
Registers and monitors the life cycle of fixed assets, assign asset tags and ensures appropriate classification of assets, including subscription-based information technology arrangements (SBITAs), movable equipment, software and building or remodeling projects. Performs reconciliations of fixed assets to accounts and funds, encompassing additions, disposals and adjustment to net book value (NBV) in support of the Annual Comprehensive Financial report (ACFR)
Manages account reconciliations ensuring proper allocation and correction of expenses, and other financial entries.
Reviews and submits journal entries with supporting documentation ensuring compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations.
Reconciles ledger accounts.
Collaborates with external auditors to facilitate annual financial audits and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
Reconciles fiscal yearend inventory.
Reviews, reconciles and process journal entries for internal allocations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Financial Administration Manual (FAM).
Knowledge of financial reporting requirements.
Skill in reconciling financial statements, analyzing discrepancies and ensuring proper allocation and correction of expenses.
Skill in compiling and interpreting financial data.
Ability to collaborate with auditors, internal stakeholders and external agencies.
Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor degree required. An Associate degree may be considered with equivalent additional work experience.
Experience:
3+ years of relevant, professional and progressive work experience.
