Supporting the SBC Tax Team within the broader Sumitomo Chemical America group, this position is immediately responsible for workpaper and return preparation for all non-income taxes such as sales and use, property, excise, gross receipts (B&O), franchise, Canadian goods and services taxes, and any other miscellaneous taxes as assigned. Non-income tax duties would also include maintenance of the corresponding compliance and filing calendar. This position will also assist as needed with income tax workpapers, especially for state and local purposes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and timely file all indirect tax returns, including sales and use tax, Mill Assessment, Hazardous Substance, VAT/GST, property tax, business licenses and other related excise/transaction taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Monitor and maintain filing calendars and ensure compliance with all statutory deadlines to avoid penalties and interest.
- Maintain and update tax return workpapers, ensuring proper documentation and audit trails.
- Research and apply changes in tax laws, rates, and regulations to ensure accurate filings.
- Partner with business to support customer data, SKU tax codes, state registrations.
- Administer and maintain the exemption certificate process, including solicitation, validation, and renewal of certificates.
- Research and respond to tax authorities, business partners, and other inquiries.
- Identify opportunities to automate and improve indirect tax processes, including return preparation and certificate management.
- Assist with preparation of income tax returns, extensions, and quarterly estimates.
- Assist with preparation account reconciliation and tax provision.
- Support tax audits, including data gathering, documentation, and issue resolution.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Education & Experience
- BA/BS in Accounting with 5 or more years of tax experience.
- CPA and/or a Masters degree in a related field a plus, but not necessary.
- Experienced knowledge of Excel and other common productivity programs.
- SAP preferred.
- Proficiency with research tools such as Bloomberg or CCH.
- Knowledge of any other tax software (e.g. Avalara, Onesource) a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to learn new software programs.

Base Salary: The estimated annual base salary for this position ranges from:
$88,700 to $108,600. Individual pay is based upon location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
Incentives: All full-time employees are eligible for an incentive program or profit-sharing program in addition to their base salary.
