Responsible for overseeing the end-to-end accounts payable function for freight-related transactions, ensuring compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements. Combines the strategic oversight of freight operations with the financial accountability of accounts payable, requiring a blend of logistics expertise, financial acumen, and leadership skills to drive process improvements, efficiency, compliance, and cost savings.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Ensure adherence to company policies, tax regulations, and internal controls.
Review large or complex freight accounts.
Collaborate with Vendor Management and Transportation teams to maintain accurate Freight vendor records, manage 3rd Party Freight provider, and resolve escalated vendor disputes.
Review and reconcile freight accounts, validate charges, and ensure timely and accurate payments to avoid credit or legal issues.
Analyze and identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost saving. Implement automation and workflow improvements and leverage ERP/AP tools to streamline freight AP operations.
Prepare and review control reports, monitor account aging, and provide input to management for review, and budget and strategic decisions.
Cross-functional collaborate with transportation, procurement, finance, and tax to align freight payment schedules with operational and compliance needs.
Assist in internal and external audits to provide documentation and resolve audit findings related to freight payables.

Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience. May recommend/make decisions regarding new programs/initiatives that have significant impact to the business and carry consequences in unsuccessful endeavors.
Manages a larger team or multiple small teams through direction of subordinate management and/or supervisory staff.
Work Environment
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time.
Education and Experience
Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
7+ years of managerial experience in accounting, with expertise in freight or logistics operations. Experience implementing and managing 3rd Party freight providers.
Strong knowledge of AP processes, controls, and compliance requirements. Proficiency in AP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, OTM), EDI / ACH payment processing, and automation tools.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, resolve escalated issues, and work cross-functionally.
CPA, APM, CAPP, Six Sigma certificate or related credentials are a plus.
