Summary

 

The Senior Accountant supports the management teams of the various campuses and accounting teams.  This role is responsible for managing key accounting functions, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and supporting audit and tax compliance. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in GAAP accounting, is highly organized, and can effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growing organization.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

Monthly close responsibilities

 

    • Perform monthly review, recording, and reconciliation of fixed asset additions, disposals, and depreciation by location in accordance with GAAP and Company policies
    • Maintain inventory schedules for bookstores, aircraft fuel and parts, and other items, as assigned
    • Maintain prepaid expense schedule and post related journal entries.
    • Maintain lease accounting system and post monthly ASC 842 journal entries
    • Maintain balance sheet reconciliations
    • Ensure all cash transactions are posted for bank reconciliation
    • Prepare C-Suite expense reports for month-end accruals
    • Prepare and post other journal entries as assigned

 

Other responsibilities

 

  • Manage cash, including daily roll-forward and transfers between accounts as needed
  • Set up new vendors in general ledger system
  • Process ACH and wire payments when requested
  • Prepare and file sales tax and business personal property tax returns, including processing related payments
  • Manage the American Express corporate credit card program
  • Serve as the point of contact for business insurance requests related to aircraft, equipment, and events
  • Serve as the primary daily contact for supporting audit and tax engagements
  • Assist with federal, state, and regulatory agency filings, as assigned
  • Assist with other accounting projects as needed.
  • Support the Accounting and Finance teams in connection with ad-hoc projects and analysis.
  • Provide suggestions and input to improve and optimize processes.

 

Knowledge / Skills

 

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to precision
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and comfort with management interactions
  • Sense of curiosity and willingness to dive into details to solve a problem or answer a question
  • Willingness to ask for help when needed
  • Ability to create work product in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.; intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables and V-lookups, required
  • Sound professional and ethical judgment and commitment to confidentiality

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

 

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor‚Äôs degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • At least 3 years of experience in general ledger accounting, preferably in a multi-entity environment required
  • Experience working daily in Sage Intacct general ledger software preferred
  • Familiarity with ASC 842 lease accounting concepts preferred
  • Familiarity with managing corporate credit card programs preferred
  • Experience in higher education, aviation, or private equity backed companies preferred
  • Experience with sales and property tax filings preferred
  • Experience with audit and income tax engagement support preferred
  • Exposure to M&A transactions, including due diligence and integration work preferred
