Summary

The Senior Accountant position reports to the Accounting Supervisor and supports other department staff. This position requires someone who is a self-starter and demonstrates a high degree of competence and organizational skills with the ability to work independently to perform complex accounting activities and financial analyses. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for producing financial reports as well as analyzing data. Ability to turn around ad hoc analyses quickly while maintaining integrity and accuracy of data; 
  • Works independently and ensures all work is completed without follow-up from supervisor;
  • Develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets to prepare analyses and reports using advanced Excel functions; 
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, provide information and recommendations to management and follow-through on solutions;
  • Assist with the management reporting, departmental reporting and associated schedules;
  • Review monthly exception reporting to ensure firm policies are being followed
  • Assist in the firm-wide annual forecasting/budgeting process; 
  • Perform monthly account review and variance analysis; 
  • Review and analysis of general ledger transactions and accounts, using technical judgment to ensure financial transactions are properly recorded;
  • Assist with mentoring staff including first round review of work, providing feedback and training; 
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate appropriately to meet a variety of demands;
  • Flexibility to complete special projects;
  • Communicate effectively with other departments and outside parties;
  • Develop a strong understanding of Firm operations and the law firm industry

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Accounting or finance degree
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills within his/her professional background

Preferred:

  • CPA or candidate for CPA certification
