What is the role?

dotCMS is a cloud-based Universal CMS that is changing how enterprises do digital. We seek a Finance Controller accountable for the company's finance and accounting operations. 


As a Financial Controller, you will produce financial reports, maintain an adequate accounting system, and implement a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.


We're proud to be 100% remote! You may work remotely from any location that is compatible with standard U.S. business hours (unless specified otherwise). Please note this is a Full Time position, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Financial Structuring and Organization:
    • Review, redesign, and implement a comprehensive chart of accounts that accurately reflects the company‚Äôs financial activities.
    • Ensure the chart of accounts is scalable and adaptable to the company‚Äôs growth and evolving business needs.
    • Develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures to maintain the integrity of financial data.
  • Budgeting, Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Develop, monitor, and manage the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and optimizing resource allocation.
    • Identify key metrics to report on and present to the management team monthly and quarterly.
    • Ensure the company‚Äôs accounting procedures and reported results conform to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Operational Accounting Management:
    • Manage all accounting operational functions, including Billing, Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), General Ledger (GL), Revenue Recognition, and Payroll.
    • Perform month-end reconciliations in QuickBooks for all bank accounts, credit cards, lines of credit, and loans.
    • Manage the treasury and interest expense in line with the business's cash flow.
    • File year-end tax forms and submit W-2s to employees.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards.
    • Monitor and manage financial risks, ensuring the company‚Äôs financial health and stability.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
    • Ensure the team has the necessary skills and tools to perform their duties effectively.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Strong financial audit and tax leadership and coordination ability.
    • Payroll Management: oversee payroll operations across multiple countries and systems, ensuring accurate multinational payroll processing.
    • Reimbursement Process Improvement: streamline and manage reimbursement processes within a complex international structure, identifying opportunities for efficiency.¬†
    • International Customer Onboarding: support financial aspects of international customer onboarding, ensuring smooth integration, compliance, and alignment with billing requirements.¬†
    • Vendor/Customer Contract Management: review vendor and customer contracts to assess financial implications, compliance, and potential risks to support decision-making.
    • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Exhibit a detail-oriented and highly observant approach, with the ability to pick up on minor details or changes that others often overlook.
    • Work effectively in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.


Why we get excited about you:

  • Experience:
    • 7+ years in similar finance or accounting positions.
    • 2+ years of public accounting experience.
    • 3+ years in SaaS companies with rapidly growing ARR and headcount.
    • Systems and process integration resulting from M&A transactions, including international multi-entity consolidations.¬†
  • Proven track record in:
    • Adapting to changing processes in a scaling business environment.
    • Leading and coaching a team of staff accountants.
    • Administering financial systems such as Maxio (SaaSOptics), QuickBooks Online, and Deel.
  • Leading the successful transition to a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Technical skills:
    • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
    • Strong GAAP experience, including ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) and R&D capitalization.
    • Proficiency in budgeting, creating financial statements and management reports.
    • Expertise in general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Education:
    • Public Accountant/Degree in accounting, finance, or business-related field, CPA.
