Dir. Tax Research & Content Strategy
H&R Block
The Director, Tax Research & Content Strategy – is a leadership role in the Tax Institute at H&R Block - H&R Block’s center of tax expertise support. This role will lead the team responsible for researching, analyzing, and translating federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations into clear and actionable guidance for our tax professionals, business partners, journalists, and clients. In addition, this role will be responsible for a variety of cross-functional collaborative projects and for helping modernize the way in which we work. This is a challenging and rewarding role requiring connected leadership, communication skills, and a deep understanding of federal and state tax laws as they apply to individuals and small business owners.
  
Strategic Planning & Direction  - Lead multiple functions, including:
- A team that provides tax research services to H&R Block’s network of over 9,000 retail tax offices and 50,000 tax professionals.
- A team that tracks and analyzes new tax legislation and related guidance, identifies key impacts to H&R Block’s business and our customers, and communicates these to relevant business partners. This team also ensures the tax accuracy of all media, marketing and other public statements made by H&R Block
- In addition, this Director will be responsible for leading the development and maintenance of a cutting-edge GenAI-powered chat tool designed to assist H&R Block tax professionals with their tax law inquiries, helping modernize the way the Tax Institute delivers our expertise to our front-line partners.
- Collaborate with key business partners to develop a wholistic and customer-centric support model for H&R Block’s network of retail tax offices.
- Partner with Corporate Communications and Marketing to develop and update public statements on all matters involving tax law, practice, and administration.
- Stay informed on the latest tax changes, trends, and developments in the tax preparation industry and the regulatory environment for federal, state, and local levels, and share this information continuously. 
People and Resource Management  - Elevate talent and culture – Foster development of a team of managers and tax research analysts by creating an environment where they thrive in their roles, have a deep sense of belonging, and understand how their work ladders up to our success as a company.
- Strategic process improvement – Assess current processes and develop a plan for strategic improvement, finding areas for automating or implementing innovative technologies, finding opportunities for cost reduction, and new opportunities for supporting business priorities.  
Financial/budget management - Assist VP and TTI leadership team in developing and managing an annual department operating plan and associated budgets which are moderate to significant in size and complexity.  
- Review and approve staff requests for hardware / software upgrades, travel & expense reports, supplies, and approve invoices for payment.  
Operations/Project Management - Monitor operational and/or project schedules to ensure that work is on track for prompt completion with high quality. 
- Inform leadership and executives within various business units of schedules and other pertinent operational details.
