As a Controller at ecoCFO, you will be the lead on one or more client accounts, owning the client relationship and managing their back-office accounting systems. You will oversee a staff accountant and collaborate with our FP&A and CFO teams while supporting the client's executives. Your role will involve implementing and operating back-office software and systems that align with our clients' growth and taking responsibility for reviewing and signing off on financial statements. Our ecoCFO controllers set up and run audit-ready accounting systems and build trust and transparency with all the stakeholders.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform or manage all tasks related to the daily operation of an accounting office.
- Oversee all general accounting and bookkeeping tasks, including policy design, controls, and enforcement.
- Creation of company and/or project projections and analyze results to projections.
- Review, analyze, and report on financial statements.
- Create Monthly/Quarterly/Annual financial reports for client management and their board of directors.
- Determine appropriate KPIs and review calculations and trends to gauge performance.
- Manage or work with vendors and partners such as attorneys, CPAs, lenders, benefits administrators, insurance brokers, and others.
- Manage external audits, including first-time audits, with an outside CPA firm.
- Manage tax strategy, compliance, and annual tax preparation, working with an outside tax preparation firm.
- Implement new software systems to increase the scalability and efficiency of the Finance function.
- Draft and implement policies based on relevant GAAP principles.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Controller or equivalent.
- Fifteen (15) or more years of GAAP experience
- Strong background working with federal and state regulations.  Experience with one or some of DOE, DOD, NSF, and SBIR grant compliance is a plus.
- Solar, manufacturing, and construction experience preferred.
- Experience with SaaS or other related "sales as service" models.
- Experience with revenue recognition and ASC606.
- Thorough understanding of R&D expense treatment for GAAP, tax, sales tax, and ITC.
- A CPA license is preferred (even if it is inactive).
- Comfort using or learning cloud accounting software such as QBO, Sage Intacct, Netsuite, BILL, various payroll systems, etc.
