Job Description:

SUNY Broome Community College has an immediate opening for a full-time, 12-month, experienced financial leader to serve as Associate Vice President and Controller for the Finance Office. This is an in-person position, with a standard Monday through Friday schedule, occasional evenings and weekends.

This Administrative position reports directly to the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs. The Associate Vice President and Controller serves as the second-in-command for the division and provides leadership and oversight for the College's financial operations, accounting and auditing functions, student financial services, payroll, purchasing, grants administration, compliance activities, and internal controls.

This role requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while handling confidential financial information. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the College's strategic priorities through sound fiscal management, regulatory compliance, operational effectiveness, and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs with divisional leadership, strategic planning, policy development, assessments, special projects and initiatives.
• Act on behalf of the Vice President during their absence and represent the division at internal and external meetings.
• Provide operational oversight of the Controller's Office, Student Financial Services, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Mailroom operations.
• Provide financial oversight and ensure sound fiscal management of the Faculty- Student Association (F-SA) and BCC Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
• Oversee financial compliance for the F-SA and BCC HDC, ensuring adherence to all applicable policies, regulations, reporting requirements, and internal controls.
• Direct accounting, financial reporting, grants administration, cash management, fixed asset accounting, procurement, and related financial functions.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls that ensure the integrity of financial operations and compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards.
• Oversee the preparation of financial statements, annual operating reports, grant reports, and other required federal, state, SUNY, and institutional reporting.
• Coordinate annual external audits and implement recommendations to strengthen financial processes and controls.
• Collaborate with Information Technology and other departments to maintain the accuracy, security, and integrity of financial systems and data.
• Provide leadership, supervision, training, and evaluation of professional and support staff within assigned areas.
• Promote a culture of exceptional customer service for students, employees, vendors, and external stakeholders.
• Serve as Treasurer of the Broome Community College Faculty-Student Association.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Ten (10) years of experience in accounting, including five (5) years as a senior financial manager.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship from the employer.  

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
• Master's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience in a multi-department business or finance office.
• Experience in higher education.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of accounting and financial management in a large organization; higher education institution preferred.
• Knowledge of governmental/fund accounting systems and operations.
• Knowledge of large system computer processing and desktop financial and office applications.
• Familiarity with state and federal grant accounting and reporting.
• Knowledge of basic student financial aid.
• Strong understanding of organizational management, planning, and budgeting.
• Experience with enterprise financial systems and financial software applications.
• Excellent leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and evaluate professional and support staff.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information:

The minimum salary for this position is $128,384. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
