Accounting Specialist (Payroll)

Overview

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a growing organization in the Chesapeake, VA area seeking an Accounting Specialist (Payroll) to support payroll operations and assist with broader accounting functions.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong payroll experience who is looking to expand into general accounting responsibilities within a collaborative finance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and support full-cycle payroll using Paylocity

• Ensure payroll is completed accurately and in compliance with company policies and regulations

• Maintain employee payroll records, deductions, and benefits information

• Assist with payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audits

• Support general accounting functions as needed, including:

  • Journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Assisting with month-end close
  • Accounts payable and/or receivable support

• Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis to support finance leadership

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in payroll and/or accounting support roles
• Experience with Paylocity required
• Strong understanding of payroll processes and compliance requirements
• Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organization
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to general accounting (AP, AR, or GL)
• Experience supporting month-end close processes
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
